Nathan Grimm is consistent - consistently good! He and Karen Voelz won third place medals in Mixed Foil. Also competing in this event were Martha and Eric Wohlfeil (first fencing tournament for both), Barb Palecek and Ginny Weimer. Club members actively participated in Mixed Epee. Richard Struk took 2nd and Karl Held placed 3rd. Laura Scholten, Karen Voelz, Grace Kostroski and Barb Palecek also competed in epee. In Mixed Saber, Jim Voelz received a silver medal and Richard Struk won a bronze medal. This one tournament yielded six pieces of hardware for club members!

No doubt about it, this was a great tournament for WFA members in all three events! Nathan Grimm won a bronze medal AND earned an E rating in Div3 Mixed Foil! Jim Voelz won a gold medal AND earned an E rating in Div3 Mixed Saber! Karen Voelz won a bronze medal in Div3 Mixed Epee! Barb Palecek competed in both the foil and epee events. Major Headline here - Luke Voelz takes the gold in the U19 Mixed Foil event!! Karen and Jim Voelz competed in the Senior Mixed Foil event. Karen tried her hand in the Senior Mixed Epee competition and beat the eventual winner (Robert Chidel) in pools! Jim was the only person registered for Saber, so I guess he could claim that he took the gold!

Father's Day Cup

WFA and the Montessori School are pleased to honor the tournament's eight "Fencing Fathers": Jim Voelz, Joe Biebel, Christopher Bundy, Chris Plaza, Carey Roth, Dave Schlomer, Stuart Hecht and Richard Struk. Each one fenced well with four of the fathers winning medals! Fencing for WFA in epee were Richard Struk (silver), Sam Kopps (bronze), Laura Scholten and Kathy Mlsna. WFA foilists were Jim Voelz, Nathan Grimm, Dave Schlomer, Karen Voelz, Ginny Weimer and Barb Palecek. WFA sabre competitors were Richard Struk (gold), Jim Voelz (bronze) and Sam Kopps (bronze). This was the third tournament sponsored by WFA and it took the help of many individuals to make it such a fun day. WI Fencing Academy Open

There were so many highlights in this tournament. It is hard to decide where to begin because WFA members did so well!

In Mixed Epee, Bishara Korkor faced a tough opponent in the finals but came through with the gold!

In Mixed Foil, Luke Voelz improved his rating to D07, Dave Schlomer went from E05 to E07 and Bishara Korkor earned an E07 rating.

In Women's Foil, Karen Voelz and Kim Pater were awarded bronze medals.
